Okay, it is nearly Halloween and most dieters are looking at those rows of candy and cringing. It is a sugar stocked danger zone that appears in every store at this time of year.
What if you could harness that overabundance of sweets to work in your favor?
Look at those bags of small candy bars and don’t think of how you could go through the entire bag in one evening. Look at them and think of how you could ration yourself out a few candy bars a month to help you evade those sweet attacks without having an entire candy bar unwrapped and beckoning to you.
Selections such as the small Hershey’s bars are perfect, since they can be kept for a very long time stored away in the back shelf of the pantry and doled out a few at a time throughout the year.
For pennies on the dollar you can have a low calorie alternative to the full-sized candy bars you would normally buy throughout the year. And if you normally purchase the small candy bars anyway, look at the savings. A bag that costs nearly $5 throughout the year is only $3 before Halloween and often as low as twenty-five cents or even a nickle a bag after Halloween.
So at a bag a month, you could pay $60 throughout the year at $5 a bag, or, just after Halloween, if you can catch the candy on sale at even fifty cents a bag, you are paying only $6. That is a savings of $54 in your year’s candy stash. Even if you have to spend a dollar a bag, you still save $48 in the course of a year.
So, the next time you see those carts filled with discounted candy don’t cringe, instead see them as a practice in self control and pick up some low calorie weapons in the battle against sweet attacks. Tuck a few in a jar for the month ahead, and stash the rest out of sight and out of mind in the back of the pantry.
